This blog is dedicated to Jesse and Maya's Monday morning section of Introduction to Experience Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Winter 2009.
Concept # 1 I really like the idea of making an everyday object like an alarm clock fun. I'm a drummer so this idea really appeals to me, however I think it may lack in the way of interaction. I think it would be cute for the first little while, but lose its fun factor pretty quickly. The recordable part is a great idea though!
Concept # 2 I don't know if i am quite understanding this idea, but what I see is a head that is blank, in the shape best suited for manga drawing/painting that can be painted and removed? Or it may be permanent. I think this is an interesting idea because it combines that same kind of concentration and interest in a subject that your model car example does, only for something completely different. I think this could be fun because it takes what is typically done in 2D and lifted into 3d.
Concept 3 This concept needs to be a little more detailed because from wht I can see there is definately something really cool that could happen with this gadget. What kind of feedback would it give with every touch? Does it light up? The idea of it being frosted is really appealing too, I can see it sitting on a desk in an office looking sort of sharp. Concept # 4 This idea is cute and would definitely be great for a younger demographic but I think that there are very similar things that exist. Concept # 5 This is my favourite of your ideas. I think you idea of something that is tactile and malleable would be really appealing to many people.I also think the fact that the user is in complete control of the object, meaning that there is never going to be the same outcome/face and that it can be moved any which way is really fun and engaging.
Experience design is the practice of designing products, processes, services, events, and environments - each of which is a human experience – with the specific focus of the design activity being the quality of the user experience. In turn, the quality of any experience is a combination of factors which include individual or group needs, desires, beliefs, knowledge, skills, experiences, and perceptions. Experience design combines technological innovation with social innovation, psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, architecture and environmental design, information design, ethnography, brand management, interaction design, service design, storytelling and heuristics.
