This blog is dedicated to Jesse and Maya's Monday morning section of Introduction to Experience Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Winter 2009.
All the concepts in general are fun for kids, not for our demographics. There are similar products existed in the markets. The concepts get some modifications from the existing products, but these modifications are kind of minor and cannot be treated as completely new ideas. There are potentials in these ideas to make them for our demographics. Concept 1: I can see how it functions. The hooks go inside of nose to get “brains” out. It is fun for kids because of the brain is made of clear plastic cover and have colorful parts. My concern is how well the hook functions, it would be harder and harder to get out the brains as the number of brains decreases. Better design of hooks and shape of brain can improve it funess and decreases its frustration. Concept 2: Again, it is definitely a toy for kids. This toy can be fun because of its color and soft texture. In addition to that, the different combination of parts can create different looks of cakes which can be worthwhile to explore. My suggestion is to make it really big and therefore it can be used to sit on or lie on, by doing that, it will be more fit to our demographics. Concept 3: This idea is similar to a game of IPod- Music Quiz, but much easier than that. The sounds in the list are so distinct that they are easily identified. Since there are already better designed products out there, there is no need to make new ones. Nonetheless, if it is designed for kids around three years old, it works. Suggestions to make it better: make it more challenging and more interesting by putting together let’s say, all the sound tracks of cars and the challenge is to tell which car produces which sound. Or put together famous sayings from well-known movies and tell which movie are they from. However, I still believe it is better to be a program of an mp3 player or media player rather than make a separate product for this function only. Concept 4: It is a fun concept because different characters from different places can be put together to form funny stores. Suggestions: it can be more interesting if we can write conversations on the page and remove them easily. Concept 5: It is an interesting concept. It is good for kids to play with it, and at the same time learn the poem. It is possible for poem lovers from our demographics to enjoy it too. If it is designed for our demographics, it is better to be designed as a fun wall decoration piece of large size. It will look great on the wall.

Experience design combines technological innovation with social innovation, psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, architecture and environmental design, information design, ethnography, brand management, interaction design, service design, storytelling and heuristics.
